Perhaps he's talking about T.38 . Applications like that add a lot a vagueness about people's definition of VoIP. MoIP is related to cellular technology.

We write data processing applications and we provide support for our legacy software by loging on to our customers servers via modems. We would like to change our office phone system over to voip but we don't know how that will affect being able to dial out on our modems. We would also like to be able to us microsoft's unified communications stuff as well but have not been able to get any solid info as to whether or not our G3 has that ability.

An IP PBX still needs analog boards for modems, faxes, etc... So when your G3 is upgraded you will get new gateways. If the new gateways are G650 then you'll move your analog boards from the G3 to the G650. Nothing changes. If you are going to a H.248 gateway then you will need to purchase new media module analog boards.
