Last week I installed a new trunk (841) into a Magix and programmed it to be a personal line on a few phones. Called the number and the call rang in OK, was answered, put on hold and so forth. This weekend the customer called and said that calls to the main list number were coming in on the phones on the button I assigned 841 to.

Made a call to the number and had them answer and made a second call and I got a busy thinking that somehow this number was put into the main list hunt by the carrier even though it was ordered by the customer as a stand alone line. So the busy condition ruled out the hunting.

The incoming calls to the main list number are answered by the messaging AA. They said that this problem happened when they were getting a lot of incoming calls.

Not knowing a whole lot about the Magix programming I’m at a loss to explain why calls to the main list are coming in on this button on the phones since that button is programmed for the new line only.

Is this happening because the new line might be in the same trunk group as the main list lines and the voicemail AA is sending the callers to the button programmed for 841 somhow?

Thanks in advance for any help.

If the line is the last number in the hunt group from the telco., you would still get a busy signal.
Make sure it's not rolling to the new number.

I don't think that's the case 6string. When I made the test calls the system was not very busy.

The Magix (and every other system) can not control what lines are ringing into it, that is the phone company's job. That being the case, the only way 841 can ring is if the number is called directly or another number is hunting to it.

I understand ttech. I've been in this business a long time. Since the main list numbers are answered by the AA, could it be something programmed in the VM that is sending the caller to the phones with the button with trunk 841?

Hello Bopper,
I think guys are right. Trunk 841 was added into main hunt by your provider and it's really probably the last line in the hunt that is why your second call into that trunk gave you a busy signal
even system wasn't having heavy incoming traffic. So, you can put your butt set on the trunk 840 and make a call into itself. If Trunk 841 will start ringing then it was added into main hunt. If not we will have to take a look in others possibilities.
