This is my first post on sundance-communications.com so Hi @ All.
First off, I am not a Phone guy, I know nothing about Phone systems so please bare with me.
I recently purchased an AVAYA MERLIN MAGIX Release 4.0, I am not sure what information you guys need, so just let me know how to get the info and I will post back soon.
The system was pre-configured for 8 outside lines (we only have 4) and 16 extensions.
Mode : Key
Slot0 : Processor Slot1 : 800 GS/LS Slot2 : 008 MLX Slot3 : Nothing (The BUS is not responding) Slot4 : 008 MLX Slot5 : MERLIN Messaging
Line1 - Line8 : 801 - 808 Extensions : 18(Operator) - 33
I CAN call internal phones by calling their extension but I CAN NOT call outside lines.
I am able to use WinSMP to access the phone system, although I have no idea what I am doing.
When I plug an outside line into the 800 GS/LS in port 1, and then try to call that line's phone number, I get a busy signal. Ive also tried another line in the same port and got the same result, a busy signal.
To be honest guys, all I really want is so be able to call inside phones and outside phones.
If anyone could assist me I would be greatly appreciative.

If you have MLX phones on one of them, press the "inspect" button. now press the buttons on the phone, this will tell you what they are programmed as.
What you are looking for is trunk "801" if that is on the phone, it should ring in. At the minimum, you should be able to press that line and dial out. When finished "inspecting", press the home "button".
Can you dial into to configure the voicemail? If they tried to configure that and messed it up, you might get busy on incoming calls....

Typically you don't want to have an open slot between modules as the processor will ignore everything to the right of it. Now it is possible that whoever pre-configured the processor busied the slot out, but the only ways to tell would be either from the programming console or through WinSPM.

@ mongo5150
Thanks for the reply, I tried what you said and when I press inspect on the phone (MLX-28D) I can press the Line buttons on the phone and I can see Line "801", but I can not dial out. I am not sure what the next step in the troubleshooting process is.
@ dexman Thanks for the reply, Is there a way from the console or WinSPM to activate the slot back (If the pre-configurer actaully did that) so I can move the 2nd MLX and Msg over one slot.

Rcb, With all do respect this is over your head. You better off to call somebody local and let them show you and answer all your questions. Spend some money to make it work and then you can try anything you want.

Of all of the systems to try and learn i would have to say the Magix / Legend is one of the trickiest. Vad is right on the money!

I agree with Vad and Upstate, with respect. From time to time, I still have to call someone when I'm programming a Legend or a Merlin.
The good news is that you could probably work out something to have someone work with you remotely to get all of this accomplished.
Your business communications are one of your most important assets. Why leave it to chance?

Years ago, for those of us who been around awhile...we didn't have websites like this one to help with any type of tech support....we had to rely on ATT & Lucent tech support and in some cases actually pay for it. The newbies to Merlins are blessed to have the gurus on this forum available to help. Onsite support is always the best.

If the slot was busied out, it can be put back into service via the programming console and (I think) WinSPM.
I do agree with the others. The Legend and Magix do have steep learning curves and sometimes it is best to bring in a local Authorized Avaya Business Partner and let them do the programming and maint.
Avaya does have documents & guides for the Legend and Magix posted on its website. The guides are free and open to all. If you are going to do any programming on the system, I would urge you download all documents that pertain to your Magix and read them.

Take it from me! It's well worth the money and support from Avaya or any of these guys here! 1 year ago i was in the same boat as you until I had an Avaya tech help me set up a few different systems last year! I learned a great deal from him to where I'm comfortable doing quite a few things but I am very far from being any kind of expert!
