I still got to think you got a IP conflict of some kind Mark. Or a anti-virus program giving you trouble.
Just to get things straight, You have the LAN port of the PM R.7 connected to the customer's LAN switch (and the port on the LAN switch isn't dedicated up link or something, just a regular port) with a straight thru cat5e cable? And the UM PC is a dedicated PC and is connected to the customer's LAN with a straight thru cat5e cable?

Yes thats it. I have no problem getting connected it just seems to drop the connection after an hour or two for no obvious reason?

We had the same problem at a client's site, I don't remember exactly what it was but I think it may have either been logfiles or someone 'fixing' the security on the machine and changing passwords.
