One of our customers is a law office with a Partner R7 and a Partner Mail R7 (the large kind, not the PCMCIA card). Both are sitting in a 5 slot carrier.
When I first installed the large VM, it was a Partner Mail VS that had been patched. It ran for awhile, then failed and we replaced it with a Partner Mail. Again, it ran for a several months and then failed around Christmas. Now the one I replaced it with has failed AGAIN!!!
When I turn the system on, the phones come up, and green lights, but I hear no Hard Disk activity. When I try to dial the ports or the hunt group, all I get is a busy signal. If I shut down and remove the 4 Port card from the VM, all ports just ring into oblivion (no test mode).
Furthermore, the system is grounded and has both a surge supressor and a UPS. I did try unplugging the UPS and testing it: the system stayed up for over 10 minutes and the display said that there was 320 minutes of estimated up time left (there is nothing else plugged into the UPS.
Could the 5-slot carrier be bad? Any ideas? I am pulling my hair out over this (I really don't want to lose this customer and they are understandably upset).

I think you mean you replaced it with a Partner Messaging R.7.
Either way, it sounds like the HD is failing. Was the last mail that you put in new? If so, they should still be under warranty.

Well, the hard drives are failing. You tell me why. Vibration, temperature, POS? I'm willing to bet that these are refurb so POS is my bet. If they were new and you were a dealer there would be a 3 year warranty (for now anyway).

I don't buy the systems I just install them for my boss...
Anyways one failing I might attribute to being a POS but two? Anyways, I installed a new one, and moved the system out of the basement. Hopefully that will solve the problem. I don't recall it getting that cold down there but maybe there was more condensation than was obvious.
