I have a Partner Mail VS R5 and want to disable some extensions. We have AA setup to answer all calls then the caller dials an extension and they get the person they dialed. However, we have several extensions that do not have a live body at them to answer the call. Is there a way to prevent callers from dialing those extensions?

You can remove VM from extensions in the admin menu of the VM, then rerecord your AA, also in the admin menu of the VM.
Can you log in as the admin?

Remove the Auto VMS Coverage from the extensions, and be sure the Transfer ReturnhExtension setting for the voice mail ports is set to Ext. 10. Callers can still transfer to those extensions, but when not answered, the call goes to Ext. 10 instead of voice mail.
Or, re-wire so your "working" extensions are all from 10 to 19, and your unmanned extensions are 20-29. Disable selector code 2 in the Auto Attendant, and callers can't dial anything in the 20's.

Also if you have a small system with ten or less extensions you can use selector code transfer and have callers dial 0 thru 9 to reach specific extensions instead of the actual extension numbers.

I can log in as the admin. Do I have to rerecord the AA greeting?

I tried removing the Auto VMS Coverage from the extensions and changing the Transfer Return Extension setting but calls still went to VM of the dialed extension. As you can probably tell, I'm not very proficient. Can you lay it out nice and simple for me?

Did you remove the mailboxes in the VM?

You want to change the Transfer Return Extension setting for the voice mail ports, not the extension without voice mail itself. Those extensions are going to depend on where in the cabinet the voice mail card lives, and what other cards are there, and in what order. If you changed the wrong extension, the call will transfer to the extension, ring, and then return to the voice mail port that sent it. That's why the mailbox is still answering. PM me with your setup and I'll see what I can do to help.
