I'v got a merlin magix with a T1 PRI. We are changing to a T1/intergrated access with 10 channels of voice/PRI and the rest data. The cicso router does the spliting out between voice and data. I think all I have to change is the b-channel group, and PRI trunks, and just list the first 10 channels. Does this sound right? Anyone else using integrated access? We've only had it from Qwest for about 6 months.

You have to do nothing. Just take a T1 cable and plug it into the Magix.

Well, I for one am not sure that doing nothing will get it done for you.

If I read your post correctly, you are doing away with a FULL 23 Channels/lines PRI and going into a service with only 10 Channels/lines.

I would think that at the very least, you will need to remove all but the 1st 10 lines from the pool they are in. (Usually the 70 Pool)

Then remove them from the b channel group, and remove the corresponding b channels from that group as well.

If you just "do nothing" your callers will hit "Dead Air" some times while dialing out.

If I'm not mistaken, don't you leave the last 10 lines because they start from the back?

It would all depend on how it will be implemented by the change of service from the provider.

I had a CLEC insist that they would use the last 12 channels, but still sent calls in on the first 11 channels as well. Just left everything in the b-channel group, and took the first 11 out of pool 70.

So I should ask Qwest which channels are voice? I know when you load in the programming for a T1 you start from 23 and work down to one. Don't know which way to go, trial and error? Never done a integrated access w/PRI, should be fun.....

You guys are talking like you never worked with Integrated T1. The same PRI they devide inside the Router into Voice and Data. Still using 1.5Meg only with 11 channels of the PRI. You dont have to change anything in the Magix. Leave all Programming in place and you will be fine. I delt with many Integrated T1s and never changed any number of channels and all works fine eccept quality. Its sucks.

Vad, you're missing:

So he is changing the number of b-channels from 23 to 10. He wants to know if he should be using the first or last 10 channels.

If he doesn't remove them from the pool, he will hit dead air 13 times out of 23 that he tries to make outgoing calls.

Only inbound will not be affected if no changes are made.

Another thing your missing, is that the cable from the smart jack is normally a straight T-1 cable. When your new provider inserts a router the cable is normally required to be a T-1 crossover cable.
Pins 1&2 and pins 4&5 swapped from one end of the cable to the other end. I have found this to be true with Qwest, AT&T and TW Telecom.

Good luck
