I can log in at RS232 port using Hyperterminal, sometimes the characters I type for Login: will register, ...sometimes not. The only speed that works [sometimes] is 19200, other speeds result in return display of strange characters. Often times the characters I type will not appear. When I do manage to progress to the 1st Options box, the numbers I type do not appear and are not received upon hitting ENTER, nothing happens.
Any ideas are appreciated

Are you using a actual serial port on you PC or a USB to serial converter?
Here are the settings: • Bits per second: 19200 • Data bits: 8 • Parity: None • Stop bits: 1 • Flow control: None

What brand of converter are you using? The only one we have had any luck with is the "Keyspan" converter.

I have had good results on 2 systems with this - Belkin N10117 I am getting erratic response on this particular Messaging R7, and do not have another on the bench to compare. I could drag out the antique Thinkpad with a real DB9 and see how that works-
I will look for a Keyspan next-

Well, I have just tried the Thinkpad with db9 with perfect results - no trouble with Hyperterminal. I checked Keyspan usb converter on ebay and there are many different models. Which one works for you? Is there a driver cd or is it PnPlay?
