have a customer with a 3 cabnet FXII. 197 17E. I can connect to com 1 with hyperterm which lets me look at ow things are programed. I also have the correct version of VMMI for this release. I found the pin out for the serial port from a comdial manual and have configured an adapter accordingly. When i try to connect to the switch with VMMI I get an error of (the login has failed. Check to make sure the communications parameters are correct. I am using a bilcon usb to serial adaptor. It works with hyperterm on this system, and anyother systems i connect to. any ideas??? help

Nothing is changing between your successful connection with Hyperterminal and trying with VMMI?

Correct

Assuming you are using same Com port settings, same baud rate, and shutting down (closing) Hyperterminal before trying to connect with VMMI, I would guess VMMI possibly doesn't like your USB to serial adapter.

Is password the same for hyperterm and VMMI

Yes. If it were password that was the issue, VMMI would tell you that it was the incorrect password.

Or use a PC with a REAL serial port.
