Does anyone know how to make DND work with voice announce? We've been told that it's technically not possible to use DND with Voice Announce which is rediculous given there are calls you simply do not want to be bothered while on.

Eg: DND works for ringing (vs. voice announce) or if you want to buzz/voice announce someone when you're NOT on the phone. HOWEVER, when you're on a call and have DND activated, anyone in the office can override and voice announce.

Is it true this was overlooked in the development? Can anyone tell us how to make it so DND is TRULY DND across the board? How do we put DND on temporarily (without indefinitely blocking all voice announce) so that people cannot voice announce when on a call?

Sorry. The phone is the Avaya 108199050 Merlin 4412D+. It is the same as the image in the hyperlink below if that helps. It looks like we are using Phone Manager Pro Application, file version 4.1.20.0, (Avaya IP Office 4.0). If this isn’t what you’re asking, sorry, please help me to give you the info you need and tell me where to look.

On IPO, DND is DND across the board unless someone has DND Exception enabled. There certainly isn't voice announce to a user already on a call. I wonder if what you call voice announce is technically something else.

Thanks. What I'm calling voice announce it looks like Avaya refers to as the "Voice Announce Manager" or VAM. We've been told by our tech support (non-avaya employees) that DND cannot be utilized for this feature. The way it works, if I'm on a call, the receptionist has the ability to 'announce' the call. She does this by hitting a button we've programmed called "Voice Announce" types in my extention and then hits #. She hears a beep, I hear a beep and the person on the other end of the phone hears a beep and it goes silent to them until the receptionist drops/hangs up her call/Voice Announce to me. So, I'm on a call, Jane Doe calls and she 'beeps' me doing voice announce to say "Jane Doe's on the phone", I then reply with "take a message" or "I'll be right there", she hangs up and I resume my call/convo with the person on the other line.

The kicker is, DND works if I'm not on the phone. If I'm off the phone she can't call or beep/VA me (where she's automatically connected to me vs. it ringing and I pick up). However, if I'm on the phone, she still has the ability to beep/VA me when I want to block her (temporarily, while my DND is active).

Sorry if that's too much, but that's the best I can do to explain what's going on. So are you saying DND should NOT allow her to voice announce to me while I"m on the phone. If so and she's programmed it incorrectly as an exception, any advice on how to disable it. She can't figure it out, the IT guy gave up or claimed it wasn't possible, and I'm at a loss. Nobody can/is willing to do the work to figure out something that I'm fairly sure USED to work properly (we've had a change of IT management and systems have been 'acting up'). So I'm thinking it's a setting we need to change back... so here I am stuck without the support from those who should have the insight to fix it. I'm hoping you experts out there have the know-how and experience we lack. PLEASE HELP ME FIX IT! THANKS!!!! smile

Well, I think we're stuck in a product warp... VAM is an Avaya Communication Manager product (which is different than IP Office). Further, in my world VAM is all about managing voice announcements on the ACM PBX and would not used as a tool for transferring calls. So, I'm confused. And confused people aren't much help. Sorry. There is no way (logically) that is designed to work with what I have (4412D+ hardware) and IP Office (for sure we have IP Office). When we go into Voice Mail we get the... "Welcome to IP Office." Please tell me what info you need to help. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!! frown

meditate on two telephones or a desktop speaker on its own talkback zone maybe. ugly, but maybe the solution you're looking for.

It seems Avaya didn't think through their DND function. Someone from avaya supposedly said to someone in my office that it doesn't do that. The only way - they said - for this to work is to go into the server room, and temporarily disable by using the phone manager server and clicking on the do not intrude under the tab of Telephony under the user name. Seems rediculous to me. (We use Tapi lines, tapit call accounting software, and Avaya's Phone Manager system). I still find it hard to believe the DND only works when someone's not on the phone. But it may be true... frown

I have just learned the official Avaya wording for our Voice Announce is called “Dial Intrusion” or “Call Intrusion". We've been told we can turn on a feature for BOTH DND &/AND Private Call, still seems redundant to need both features on. Did this clarification help?

Does anyone know how to activate DND (Do Not Disturb) on the 4412D+ with Phone Manager 4.1.2, so that it STOPS the Dial/Call Intrusion feature?

Rephrasing, how do I stop (temporarily) people from interuppting my call (while I'm talking on the phone) to announce something in my ear, with the DND or any other funtion? DND should stop this but it is not, any help??

Please, any ideas appreciated. Thanks!

Your DND button may not actually be programmed as Do Not Disturb, it may be Send All Call instead, or something else. (It can be labeled as anything you want, it is the underlying programming the determines how it works).

Do you have an Avaya Business Partner maintaining your system? It should be trivial for them to check the programming and make it correct for you.
