Does anyone know if an NVM-2E voice mail will work with a DS2000 phone system?

The reason I ask is that one of our customers was given an older NEC system with this voicemail and when we set it up we could not get the NVM-2E voice mail to work. Since I have a DS 2000 on my shelf I was going to try to set up the NVM-2E voice mail on the DS2000 to see if it is the voice mail or the other old system.

Any ideas on how to problem solve the NVM-2E voice mail would be appreciated.

Yes the 2E does work, not very well but before the intramail this was the v-mail for the 1000/2000

What is the model of the older system?

On the NVM-2e we installed one and come to find out it uses dial tone for disconnect. Yep you guessed it our customers biggest client had a deep voice and every time he would leave a message, pause and say and ummmmmmmmmmm, the system disconnected. We worked with tech support and never did get this problem to stop, they also sent out a advanced replacement the 2nd one had the same problem, we ended up pulling the NVM-2e per our customers orders and replacing it with the Voice Gate Wizard. This of course was before Intra Mail.

I have never worked with an NVM-2E just intramail. I went on the NEC techsupport website and followed the instructions to connect a laptop to see if I could get a connection and could not. I used hyperterminal and an rs232 cable and I could never get a connection. The customer swears it was working when they brought it down and I just want to eliminate the problem. Since I have never worked on an NVM-2E I want to eliminate user error which is me. The tech site says to use an rs-232 null modem cable. Has anyone ever connected with this cable directly to the voice mail? What is a null modem cable?

default connection settings should be 115200, 8n1. and you should be connected to com 2 of the nvm-2e.
not to point out the obvious but you should be connected to the 2000 via analog station ports and you have to tell the nvm-2e what extensions are connected to it via port programming. if you changed which ext's are connected to the nvm-2e during the transition this could be part of the problem.
