I have a customer that needs to have a DS3 extended about 875 feet. I've done these before using type 734 cable, but never that far. Will this be a problem? If so, should I use a different cable type or will it be even more complicated?

Type 734 cable provides a maximum DS3 distance of only 473 feet (440 feet if the DS3 is in STS-1 mode). Installing a dual interoffice DS3 repeater would increase the max 734 cable distance up to 900 feet.

ADC has a wall mounted chasis that supports a single protected (or non-protected) IOR module.

There's more information here.

I'm with Mike on this one. I've heard of people getting 500 or even 600 feet on 734, but I wouldn't try for 900!

I've used ADC repeaters for T-3s and they're excellent.

Bump:

Hoping that using a different kind of cable might help in this situation since we really don't have the luxury of placing equipment mid-span. It is in a very large aircraft hangar. Any other ideas from you telco guys?

The ADC equipment I used was very small & self contained it needed 48VDC but they have real small power supplies that would work. There's no spot in the middle you could break out of the run and mount something the size of a novel?

Alternately, you could go fiber and not worry about distance. Or short-haul microwave and not worry about pulling cable at all. Being as it was inside you wouldn't have to worry about weather interference.

Looks like this NIU from Westell would do the trick. You could put it at the mux or next to the customers' equipment.

Here in NJ, there was talk of putting NIUs on all new ds3 circuits but it never amounted to anything.

I'm pretty much limited to running cable due to the building's layout. Microwave it out of the question. I had considered the option of running fiber, but if I did that, what kind of hardware would work to make the transition from DS3 transmit/receive to fiber transmit/receive?
