Hi. I'm just about to start installing Avaya's. So to get me up and running does anybody have a cheat sheet to get the basics up and running. Ive got a 500 system in the office, which i've upgraded to 4.2. The system is equiped with 8 ds, phone 8, 32 vcm, 4 bri, 4 trk. I want to be able to set up a system before I start my training in march.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Hook it up. Calls will ring in with no programming (pots lines anyway).

When using manager, there is a help button, that button will get you help specifically to that screen. Between that and the knowledgebase (https://marketingtools.avaya.com/knowledgebase)

Past that, read the job aids, read the tech tips, and ask as many questions as you want.

Do you want the ip office to give DHCP?

If so. In the LAN1 tab, turn DHCP on, then click advanced, you can enter a dhcp scope, as well as tick a box to only give DHCP for Avaya IP phones. Also, set the address in the system tab>tftp address, to the IP that is running your tftp server.

Then, IF you are using manager as the tftp server, make sure it is open and your working directory (file>working directory) is pointed to the manager folder (usually, C:programs/Avaya/IP Office/Manager). If you click "view">"tftp log", when you reboot the phone, you will see the phone grab the files needed for updating.

Before all this, there are a few other things....in the LAN1>Gatekeeper tab, d o you have auto create user and auto create extension? If not, you will need to create a user and an extension for the phone....

After the phone upgrades, it will ask you what extension number you want to make it. Enter the extension number, and assuming that you havent added a password, when prompted for a password, just press the pound button.

There is no cheat for most of this stuff, as there are literally dozens of ways to do most things in the IPO.

First thing you will need to do is place your IP Office on a network.
Do you know how this is done?
If not I suggest you wait until training. No disrespect. But you will be coming back with more problems.

As suggested, you should probably wait for training but if you want to try and learn on your own, here are the steps you'll need.

Put IP Office on your network (assuming your office network)
Configure IP routes in IP office
Setup TFTP server on your network.
If remote, setup VPN between remote network and office network.
Connect IP phone to remote network.
For easiest phone install, setup static IP information on phone. This is done by pressing "*" as the phone starts up.

It is fairly simple to do, once you know how to do the above steps but explaining how to do all of those steps is a bit out of scope for this forum.
