Update. I finally deinstalled the common equipment and trundled it off to the nearest repair facility.

TURNS OUT THAT I HAD FAILED TO PUT THE CARDS WITH THE HIGHEST RELEASE NUMBER TO THE LEFT. ONCE DONE IT WORKED PERFECTLY. LIVE AND LEARN.
