Just wondering if anyone out there knows what information the built-in DHCP server on the 3300ICP is throwing at the phones. We are attempting to create a 'vendor' class in our DHCP server so that it can hand out addresses to the phones. Thanks for the help!

To use an external DHCP server you need the following options in your scope(s)
128 - The Ip address of the controller
129 - The IP address of teh controller - again.
130 - String MITEL IP PHONE
132 - VLAN ID
133 - IP Priority (Mitel want it set to 6)

Set up your Native scope with these options as well as your Scope for the Mitel Phones VLAN.

When a Mitel phone gets it's IP, it will retrieve it from the native VLAN. It then sees that it is in the wrong vlan and releases it's IP and then gets another from the Proper VLAN as defined in option 132.

Thanks for the information. One question I do have from that is what type of value is needed for the VLAN ID and IP Priority options? I tried string and word, but the phone rejected both. We aren't using VLANs right now and when I leave priority not set the phone accepts the DHCP Offer. I understand that Mitel wants 6, so any ideas on how I'd need to set that?

The vlan id is a number: 1,2, 4, 100,101 etc.

Although I don't know for sure, I think that the reason the set rejects the IP with vlan priority set is you have to have a vlan. I think if you were using vlans this should work.

If you're not using VLANS now, how is the voice quilty? I suspect you may have more delay than you'd like.

Sorry for not being clearer with my question. I understand that the vlan and priority are numbers. The question I had was in setting up the DHCP scope options. What data type should be used for the 132 and 133 options? I've tried a couple and the phone rejects them when I insert the correct number for priority.

Our IP phones connect to the 3300 via a 1-mile wireless link (along with the rest of the ethernet traffic for this satellite location) and we don't have any problems with our 70 or so phones.

Gotta look this one up. The DOCs I have with me don't say. I thougt it was a byte or word.

I haven't forgotten. For some reason I can't get to the tech documents on Mitel Online. I know there is a document there that explains each of the options. When I can get to it I'll up date you.

In the mean time, I'm pretty sure it's either a WORD or an INTERGER.

Ok. Found it. The Docs say this:

option 132 Hex Long (32 bit word) e.g. 0x2
Option 133 Hex Ling (32 bit word) e.g. 0x6

option 132 is VLAN ID
option 133 is VLAN Priority
