I have a large redundant SX2000 system that I am trying to back up and for some reason I am getting this message:

FS. ERROR: Could not mount volume on device RSD
Reason: Specified device- ID does not
match the device
The Device in the system is
EXTERNAL_HDM
Please check the help file for
requested command
I really need to do a back up on an RSD and not the OPS manager that I have in place. The system has been acting a little flukie lately and for my sanity if something goes wrong I would have a good back up. I will soon be upgrading the SX2000 to a 3300 in the near future.
Please Help Rob

What command are you entering to mount the RSD?

Have you tried switching planes and trying the command agian, I have had problems in the past with a RSD giving me problems then switching planes and it works, if it does you may be have a bad MCC.

I have tried it from both planes both when they were active and when they were in active. You think it might be the MCC I hope not. I would like to get a back up before a power down. Do you know if you can un plug the RSD while the system is up and running?

If you have tried to mount the RSD from both Planes active and Inactive I dont believe it is a MCC problem. How old is the most recent backup? You may want to try a full power down reboot ( If you Dare )Other than tha it could be a RSD Problem.

Below is the procedure to change out a RSD look it over and see what you think.

I hope this helps

RSD Drive
Replace an RSD Drive

To replace an RSD Drive (Type B cabinet)
Safety Considerations
1. Perform a DATA SAVE.
2. Remove the front panels.
3. Switch activity to Plane B.
4. Set ACTIVITY FREEZE to ON.
5. Set the power switch for Plane A to “0” (OFF).
6. Remove the drive carrier from the cabinet.
- Cut the tie wrap holding the power cables.
- Remove the screw on each side of the drive carrier.
- Pull the drive carrier toward you to remove it from the cabinet.
7. Remove the RSD drive.
- Label the power cable and ribbon cable at the rear of the RSD drive.
Note the location of the red marker on the ribbon cable.
- Disconnect the cables.
- Remove the RSD drive.
8. Unpack the RSD drive.
- If the ambient air temperature differs from the temperature of the drive packaging by more than 10ºC (18ºF), allow at least two hours for the temperatures to equalize before you unpack the drive.
- Wear your anti-static wrist strap while you unpack the RSD drive.
- Place the drive package on a level surface. A soft surface such as a rubber anti-static mat is recommended.
- Do not apply excessive pressure to the drive while you remove the packing cushions or the anti-static bag.
9. Fit the RSD drive into the bottom of the drive carrier and secure the RSD drive with four screws.
CAUTION: Permanent damage to the RSD drive may result if the cables are not correctly connected.
10. Connect the cables to the RSD drive, and position the red marker on the ribbon cable as previously noted (at pin P1).
11. Replace the drive carrier.
- Slide the drive carrier into the cabinet.
- Secure the drive carrier with two screws to the cabinet.
- Bundle the cables with a new tie wrap.
12. Set the power switch for Plane A to “1” (ON).
13. Set ACTIVITY FREEZE to OFF.
14. Replace the front panels.

My last back up was at the begining of last week using the OPS manager, but before that it has been about 5 months for an RSD backup. I am going to try a power down next Tuesday.
