Have Mitel PBX with Mitel 401 & 403 phones. Having issues with PBX and need to know if it is possible to get rid of our PRI and just plug the phones into Basic Business Lines and they will work???? Does anyone know???

No that configuration will not work, can you give us some specific issues you are having and maybe we can point you in the right direction.

The main issue is that they have lost voice mail on the PBX and also other issues with the PBX are acting up. They want to get rid of the PBX completely and use Basic Business Lines with the phones. They have patch panels that fee direct to each cube.

Is it possible to just drop each business line at the patch panel and then to each cube and they will work?

This solution is a quick fix for 6 months before doing a complete overhaul.

If they cannot use those phones what would work??

Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ok with the info you have given so far the simple answer is NO
you have a PRI with is being distributed VIA the PBX. If you convert that to 1 T-1 (wich could take weeks with your carrier)with a channel bank to give you individual lines. You will loose basic call flow such as Xfer and VM.

If you convert your PRI to T-1 and get a channel
bank you will have 24 lines.

Lets say you need to install a line for each person and you need xfer and vm - you could go with Centrex service from your local Bell but depending on the amount of people you need lines for that would cost a fortune per month- I am guessing at 45-60 dollars per month per line

To save Money,Time and Productivity what is stopping you from getting the VM fixed and have a dealer look at the problem in the PBX. It could be allot less of a headache

Thank you very much for the information Alex, it is greatly appreciated. I agree with your position of finding a dealer and fixing the problem in the PBX. However it seems they just want a solution to bypass and have the phones work and later getting a new PBX. Looks like Centrex will work with the phones so if they are willing to pay that is probably what they will do.

Again thank you very much for your input.

Once you get a price on the centrex, contact the Mitel dealer and see what he can do for the same , or less, money/month. Don't forget to figure in the monthly PRI bill against the centrex bill. And the per call charge that some centrex installations charge. And any L/D discount you may be getting that you might not get with the centrex. And any convenience features you lose. As you can see, there is more to it than just changing phone lines. That's part of what the phone system provider 'provides', information. smile John C.

Guys can you plug in a normal Centrex Analog line directly into the Mitel 401 and 403 phones? Is this possible or do you need Digital Centrex Service?

The Mitel telephones are proprietary sets that only run if connected to a Mitel system!
Mitel didn't make a 403 telephone. Could you be meaning a 430?
Either way, it's the same result.
