you know to me these numbers should be readily available from every LEC and CLEC that you deal with just for the simple reason of all the BULLS@#! that we put up with from them. Like good to the DMARC and we go out and its dead then we have to charge the customer and feel bad about it because the big guys are to freaking lazy to change their screen on their terminal at the call center to dispatch a tech.
And one more thing i would almost be certain that if we all made a hundred calls to an ANI number that we wouldn't be costing the Big guys to much money if any at all since they own it and let their own techs use at will.
I agree. If you are a legitimate interconnect they should provide them.

I don't mean to nitpick, but I do think it's also worth noting that what you see on a cell phone display is technically CPN/CLI and not ANI. I have run into mutliline hunt groups where the CLI is the same for every trunk, but the ANI was a completely different number. If you're trying to resolve a billing issue with an IXC, then ANI vs CPN does make a difference. This same problem can exist if you're trying to use your 'own' 8xx number as an ANAC. Some IXC's pass CPN instead of ANI.

stepping down now
Next time you’re at a large retail store and find that you’ve wasted a trip because their inadequate inventory control has left the item you’re wanting out of stock… STEAL SOMETHING CHEAP ON YOUR WAY OUT!
For those of you who think using a carriers 800# is stealing let me inform you. Having worked for a LD carrier for many years when you call their toll free it just spits it out, no billing. I wouldn't advocate stealing from anyone no matter the amount. I was holding off on this comment, I would think it would be apparent to most that the LEC's and long hauls are not going to bill themselves.
The cell phone issue has been discussed several times also. The only true ANAC is from the switch supplier. Thanks, Bill
Name me one publicly traded utility and/or telecommunications company that doesn’t finically account for services provided to itself and you’ll find one company that the SEC would have a field day with.
Yes, bean-counting mumbo-jumbo BUT… How do Telco’s fund their internal services departments that have real equipment and real tools and real technicians that want paychecks every other Friday?

i take it that you work for a LEC or CLEC and sorry if i offended you as you, i will assume are a good tech. but if you haven't been in vendors shoes you might not understand why i posted that. we put up with alot of crap and spend alot of time on issues that are not are's but we have to prove to the LEC or CLECS before they will send a tech out.
as for you your post that was not a very good analogy or maybe it went over my head because it is not stealing especially when the carriers tech gives it to you. all i have ever had to do was ask and the tech gave it to me. if they didn't want anybody to know it the tech shouldn't give it out.
Since this topic has been brought up again and I have never posted on any of the previous ones another solution for those of us that do this for a living. Most all of us have an ILEC or CLEC that we work well with and on occasion I find myself in an area that will not allow one of the numbers that I use for identifying a line and the customer's carrier of choice has account codes. I will use a forced pic (1010XXX) to my L.D. carrier friends and ask them to identify. You can also alternate the last digit or digits to identify multiples of lines.
