Is there anything other than dip switch settings and null modem adapter required for dialing in to 200 ELx remotely .The original modem went south and I cant remember If I wrote some init string into the modem and then saved it into NVM .if it's just dip switch settings can someone verify what they are I was in the berkshires laid up with busted shoulder and had a tech out on Nantucket swaping USR V.92 Modems around so I could do some hunt group changes and the he says he matched dip switch settings on the new from the old and swaped power supplies and all(but did not bring the one that he uses that is brand new out of the box that he uses for other dialups with him like I told him so don't really know at this point if the guy hooked up a 2nd bad unit)so the question again is is it just dip settings or is there a init string that needs to be loaded "Fred?"

The EL's work with just the proper dip switches, adn a null adapter. I'm not sure of the switch names, but you need dumb mode, auto-answer, load factory defaults, and a few are set to override. Dial in at any speed between 2400 and 19200, and you should be all set. The 200icps are the ones that need the modem to be pre-initialized at 9600bps.

Dip switches 1,3,8 should be down. If you still have problems you can try turning 8 up, but dip switches are all you need. Make sure when the modem is turned on that only AA, TR, and CS are lit. However, you did not say if you are syncing up with the modem and just not able to talk or if you are not syncing up at all. I usually make sure that the modem I am using on my computer is hard coded with the S register to connect at a specific speed. Also would suggest that if you are having problems syncing up try making sure that your modem at your end has the &Q setting set to 0 so it will not try to initiate an error corrected connection - sometimes that helps.
Good luck

Good luck it just rings and rings and if you put a buttset on the far side of the 92 ringing voltage makes it through and yes if I ring the pots line and someone is sitting on there with a banjo and a buttset it rings and you can answer so its not a line problem the AA light never lights......I think both modems are junk just to give you a backround there were 4 different techs in there to diagnose a trunk alarm and a hung rad problem and none of them could clear the problem so I had to drive 185 miles (one handed because I just had shoulder surgury)and 15 min plane ride to fix these issues that took a total of 15 mins so I am not supprised that these guys can't plug in a simple modem and not get it to work. the work station that I set up that is right next to the cabinets that has a 4 port serial digiboard in it that collects raw smdr from the mitel & sends it to the PMS system from another com port and I use com 5 with zoc5 vt100 to program the mitel locally is going to get pc anywhere on it when I go back to add 10 ons exts to employee rooms to the system I am sick of dialup its junk....

Okay - since the AA is disp switch settable on this modem it is just possible (if these guys are the idiots you say they are) that they have all the settings of the dip switches reversed. It's worth a shot to have them try reversing all of them. Also make sure that they have the darn line cord plugged into the correct jack on the modem because if you plug it into the phone instead of line jack it will never answer - even with all the settings correct.

yeah i did all that too they had an example in front of them so how could they screw that up and a chimp could tell which jack to plug the line cord into..... My ace in the hole is that the guy I used to work for out there kinda knows the 200 dig and was able to walk him through the new hunt group programing .so I am ok untill after I get back from Dublin the boss will have to sort it out when he returns thanks for input Dane !! Have a happy Shawn

You have a good one, too. Who knows. I have rarely had a tough time getting the darn things to answer so possibly the modem is bad.

This has been something up in there air for quiet awhile, I do have a formula used to reprogram these modems. typically for the ICP but works just as good for any other system. They are configured for 9600 8 n 1. We had bought maybe 20 modems and reprogrammed each one and every one of them has worked. PM me if you want this copy ? Maybe if you guys give that a try might work out for you a little better.
