Krane, I agree each project has its own merrits but when you said you were getting a bad vibe, nuff said. Trust your instincts and walk away. Someday in the same scenario and you get good vibes go with it.
Instincts are there for a reason.

when every things working for a couple of days and ever one is happy

To me that translates into "we'll pay you the rest when we get around to it". Out of curiosity how long were these runs and how much work was involved?

I Know this doesn't sound right to you guys, but here in Bullhead city az. population 15,000, we have a contract to pay half up front, and the remainder upon completion of the job----so far after 3 years there has been no problem.

I do the same thing if I have the slightest doubt about getting paid. And it is becoming SOP for me to collect full payment for any equipment the minute I bring it in the customer's door. And I do have them sign an agreement stating that they will pay for it at that time.

I've had very little negative response to this policy. I tell them it's just like when they go to the grocery store. If they don't pay right then they don't leave with the grub.

Why wouldn't it sound right? That's the only way we will do business. 50% when they sign the contract THEN we order the equipment. At least then if the customer is "going to pay games" we have the equipment paid for.
