those are the ones. now I hope the just don't cost an arm and a leg.

Yes, those are the ones. As I said they are now made by ITW linx. The 4 outlet #MK4SU is priced at what you should pay for a quality surge suppressor. This is the only one we use unless we are supplying a UPS.

Keep in mind that all surge suppressors are not alike. Many do not offer the degree of protection that you would expect, some are out and out frauds offering little or no protection. You usually do get what you pay for but this is one item where price can be misleading. I have seen high price units that are poorly constructed and provide little protection. Seems the distributors of these are capitalizing on the gulibility of the customer who thinks that because it's expensive it must be good.

If you stay with major manufacturers that you are familiar with you should be OK.

We have used them for years..........but their secondary phone line protection fails quite often.

Has anyone ever tried to hold them to their warranty of equip that is hook to their units?

Now the only things is to get the outlets far enough apart. I just hate it when I need to plug something in and 2 big fat power supplys cover up an entire power strip. And they usually connect something that ain't even important up, like propaganda on hold...

Which ones and how do they fail? The ones that are built into the surge suppressor (I never used them)or their add- on mods? I rarely use those.

What I use are the FPP-235 5-pin plug-in protectors. They do have sneak current fuses and they do open. When they do I explain to the customer that they are doing their job. They (ITW Linx) do make a self reseting version. More money and I would consider them for locations that have the protectors frequently blowing. As of yet I haven't tried any. I like the idea of then having to be replaced because you know they worked and you replace it with a brand new one.

I use the mods that go on top.

And they will often fail..........blowing a line port on the KSU when a storm swings by.

Are they a CO line protector and if so who makes them?

I have used the sneak fuses for years with good luck........but I am being told from our supplier they will no longer be avalibale.

Thanks,

I have used them for over 10 years. Sent many back after surges took them out (even to the point of the plastic melted!). All I ever did was get an RA # send it in and get a new one. In that entire time I only had 1 Comdial DSU get damaged. I sent the old surge protector and my invoice to them, we had one conversation on the phone and they sent me a check. That was all back when it was PanaMax. I've yet to have any problems with the CO protectors.

We had a CO module just last week that let a lighting surge through and blow a line port on the KSU.

Was that with the CO module attached to the base unit?

The reason I ask is that I've been using them standalone, and running my own ground line. I find that to be convenient, since in many buildings the entry for building power and telco is close together. It's also a good way for me to be sure that the run from the protector to the system will be more than 6', regardless of who mucks with it.

No problems, yet, but we aren't exactly in the center of Lightning Country either, so I'm not sure whether any have been stressed.

Steve, you can do that, but it's not approved by the manufacturer. Most that I have seen are mounted to the wall with drywall screws and by the time it's tightened down, the bugle head flares the wire loop open. I wouldn't count on the manufacturer honoring their protection warranty unless it is installed using their AC base protector.
