I have been trying to connect a Valcom V-2003AHF to a CO port of my Mitel 3000 (formerly the Inter-Tel 3000). I'm using Mitel 4110 digital phone sets. I have everything connected per the Valcom manual with the battery switch on. I have the co line port (port 2) connected to the wh/bl - bl/wh pair on the block (connected with the amphenol connector) to the Valcom. When I go off-hook and press line 2, it lights green, but I cannot get page tone. I've tested the Valcom with my butt set and it works perfectly - I go off-hook, get tone and can then select a page zone and the page and talkback works great. I also pulled the Valcom connection from the Mitel 3000 CO line port and plugged it directly into the line port of a Partner ACS R7 that I have here for testing purposes and it works just fine also.

When I try my butt set from one of the extension ports, go off-hook and dial nine to access a line port, line 2 lights green but no tone can be heard.

I even tried connecting a Viking universal telecom/paging interface (PI-1) per the Viking instruction page and cannot get page tone.

Any ideas?

This is just a stretch, but worth considering. If the 3000 is anything like some of the older Mitel products, the trunk ports are polarity sensitive. Try reversing the polarity on the connection between the CO line port and the Valcom unit and see what happens.

I just talked to my "go to" guy on paging and if you are trying to use zone paging you are going to need a paging adapter.

Thanks Ed. I had tried that before thinking the same thing, but I tried it again just to be sure and it didn't do the trick.

One thing I might also mention is that I have my butt set monitoring the w/bl pair on the 66 block when the 4110 goes off-hook on line 2. I hear the Valcom sending the tone, but the mitel 3000 is just not picking it up. If I monitor the w/bl of the line cord going coming from an extension port to the 4110, again, no page tone. I think at this point I'm ready to chat with Mitel.

Thanks Dane, I have a Viking PI-1 Universal Telecom/Paging Interface that I've already tried. Are you suggesting a different device?

Normally on a trunk port you are not having to open or close relays. But from what you are saying it is not opening the voice path if you cannot hear the paging tone coming back. Might I suggest you try doing this with speed dial so that you program the access code and at least one additional digit. This may grab a receiver and open the voice path.

I wanted to let you know, (and anyone that reads this post) that I found the answer. It's in the administrator's manual on page 100, - "To Program Loop Calling on System Lines". The feature is used when specialized lines without dial tone are connected to the switch. These can be tie lines or lines with external ring down equipment.
The program path is: System program > Lines > PSTN programming > Loop calling > (choose the line port associated with your external equipment)

....and that's it. You won't find it in the table of contents if you don't know it's there and it's not under "Paging". However it is listed under "Local codes" - go figure.

Thanks Dane
