We have installed a Mitel 3300 running version 9. We installed several analogue extensions into lifts and hotlines them to dial an extension in a security post. If the button is pressed on the lift it rings the security office and you can have a normal conversation. However when the security office hangup the lift phones calls them back again and carries on doing this 8 - 9 times. I have tried setting the positive disconnect to yes and upping the timer to 1000mS but this hasn't made any difference.

I had a problem like this not long ago and it turned out to be the elevator phone. Is the elevator phone programmed to just come off hook or dial a number (this actually would be non-issue as far as the hotline working but it may make a difference in how the elevator phone is processing)

The security will have to dial a hang up code. Each manufacturer and model of phone has their own setting. With most of the phones, they stay off hook; hence the Mitel will call again and again until the phone times out. In a couple of buildings, I switched it out from a hotline to a dial down because of this. What model phone are you using?

As far as I am aware the Elevator phone is simply going off hook and then the Mitel is hotlined to dial a number which happens to be an extension on the Mitel in the control room. The handset in the control room is a 5340.

The lift phone may have a built in dialer, have it dial security’s extension, remove Hotline. What’s the manufacturer of the lift phone. Otis Elevators here use *0 to hang up, Rath Microtech uses *#...

This was resolved by talking to the lift engineers. The Mitel user has to dial 0 when they have finished to send a hangup signal to the lift phone.

Perfect example of how this forum helps and why it is important for people who pose questions come back to let us know the resolution. I was working today with a tech on site in Buffalo changing the elevator (lift) over to an ext. It would ring but the circuit would not release. I remembered reading about something similar here (this thread) and it turned out the solution Andy found worked perfectly.
