I'm trying to set up our auto attendant to route calls to the appropriate groups. I set up hunt groups, and now I'm trying to set up auto-attendant boxes with options for those hunt groups, but it won't allow me to enter a hunt group for each option. What am I doing wrong?

For example, box 4 is an autoattendant box.
Hunt group 7805 is our sales department

Set box 4 as menu node, then go into MLAA form and try to set option 1 on box 4 to go to 7805, it says invalid extension/mailbox.

I suppose the MLAA box has to point to a transfer box so it has a name to spit out when transferring.

Make sure your VM allow 4 digits plan.

Sounds familiar, but can you point me where that is? I checked VM system options and don't see it, but I do have "allow any number" enabled.

BTW I don't think thats it anyway since I can use 4 digits for the transfer mailbox.

Final answer(s):

You do need a transfer mailbox. You *can* set the transfer mailbox to the same number as the ring/hunt group extension, and the only difference is, if the voicemail transfer timer times out before the ring group is complete, voicemail will pull back the call and play the greeting of the transfer mailbox, then fall back to either "enter another extension" or the MLAA box if thats what triggered the transfer box to begin with. If the transfer box number is different than the ring/hunt group number, it obviously falls back to the "enter another extension" or the MLAA box immediately.

Next, for the ring group, I had to make sure the ring timer was set appropriately for the number of members x ring cadence, so if I have the cadence timer set to 7 seconds (approx 3 rings) with 3 members, my default call timer of 20 will kill the ring group before it completes properly.

Lastly - one open issue - I cannot put 0 or any other console extension in the ring group. I can have it fallback to 0 if nobody in the group answers, which is fine, but on the console, the operator only sees the number of the ring group, not the name, which really sucks because the name would tell the operator what that call was for!!
