We just started moving to a building we bought that has a functional SX-200. No console phone or software. I understand that it may be possible to manage this with a serial cable and an emulator. Will hyper terminal work or do I need something more robust? all I am really after is setting up names at extensions, (yes, i can do this at the set) and pick and hunt groups. My PBX experience is nearly non existent but I learn quickly. Is there someone who would be willing to reply with a getting started for dummies and pm me default passwords? help

Which Model of the SX200 is it? Can you get a part number from the main control card?

well, not from here. I am at the other plant today. The main control card being the white card with a LW something or other on the side of it? Is that card compact flash? can it be read and modified via pc with a card reader or is this a bad idea? thanks for the speedy reply.

That flash card caries the programming - Hyperterminal (or any other program that will emulate a Vt100 or ANSI terminal)will work fine to access the programming

However, make NO attempt to read from, or write to, the flash card independently. In other words, don't pull it from the MCC card and slot it in a card reader. That's as good a way as any to corrupt the program! Connection via DB-9 on rear of cabinet.

With all due respect, Scout48, you should take the time to find a qualified Mitel tech to do this work for you and then give you enough OJT to do routine administration on your own. If not, at least arrange for someone here to do the same remotely. A PC with internet access and a serial connection to the Mitel would make that possible.

Even though the SX200 is made by Mitel Networks, it's frontend is still very much a TDM PBX and bears little resemblance to the world of data networking. You're talking about a system that's every bit as critical to your operation as your data network. Had the prior tenant left their server and workstations in place, would you assume you could just change the screensavers and conduct business as usual?

If the situation were reversed and I were asking you for enough rope (patch cables) to hang myself, would you really smile and give it to me? Believe me, if someone hands you the passwords and a "getting started for dummies", they're not your friend.

Harry's advice should be followed. You should be trying to find a vendor to partner with.

I find it hard to believe that the sytem will be configured to suit your needs. Who knows, it might have been over trunked for the previous user and helped them out of business.
