Our company has decided to migrate to Mitel as a small/medium platform to replace the, soon to be defunct, Norstar MICS/CICS which we have installed and maintained for 15+ years.
I will be installing a 3000 next week and just completed the online basic course. What quirks should I look for in this little system, or what opinions do you have on the 3000?

This is the newer small system for up to 52 phones based on an Inter-Tel system that is modular to expand. Maybe there are some techs that have come across this one. I have not seen any installs out there yet.

Pretty simple programming either by phone or PC, built in modem allows for remote programming, great tech support, T1, voip capable, uses proprietary or ordinary phones, product available locally, full duplex speaker phones, nice display, call handling via display navigation. There was an equipment problem on an earlier ksu version, but it seems to have been resolved.

Only thing that sucks for me would be they are 4 wire system like the old Comdial. Phones aren't 2 wire digital phones

As a small kay system, the 3000 isn't bad. Of course with any firmware driven system, what bugs may be won't be corrected as quickly as a software driven one.
Aside from the cheesy expansion backplane and modular design, my worst complaint would be that the neither the voice mail or single line telephone can do a flash on a trunk.
In the one installation where they are running all IP 5330 phones, tech support has be most helpful.

I figured out the 4 wire system which could be a nightmare if you are replacing a CICS in a building with old wiring...crazy. Is the 5000 based on the 4 wire architecture also?

We just finished installing the first one of these little systems and I have to say it's OK. I do like the basic plug-n-play aspect of it and the ease of figuring out the little CCR tree routing that is built into it.
I was, and still am, put off with the four wire station wiring...that potentially could cause headaches and does increase the labor calculations somewhat, because the location where we installed this first system required all jacks and 66B station blocks to be rewired.

We usually run into Mitel 3000 (aka the InterTel Encore CX) installed by electricians who know nothing about programming them. I took the courses back when it was still the Encore, but we don't really sell them. They do the job well enough though.

I took over two Mitel 3000 (aka the InterTel Encore CX) systems installed by electricians. They both gave up on the programming. One was a T1 with DIDs. Both of these accounts led to large expansion projects. I am actually using this system in my office. I have the broadband module installed (compliments of InterTel as I was a beta test site) I have a remote ip phone connected and it works great. I just installed my first DSX40 (the customer needed single pair cabling) and the customer loves it. I found the programming more complicated than the programming of the 3000. Of course the DSX has more features.
