Since the previous topic is closed, just wan't to know why one would go this route?

I just don't see any benefit. Adding a MAS server covers most needs by customers. Benbria etal could do the rest IMHO

From a user point of view:

1. Cost: Mitel AS server costs $$ while Asterisk is free, other than the time it takes to set it up.

2. Flexibility: The options are almost limitless once your in Asterisk's world...pair up to Skype, interface with non-Mitel compatible phones and phone systems, or use it to expand the system using cheaper hardware.

3. Voicemail - Dunno about you but the one big grief I have with our Mitel system is voicemail...we went with the embedded one (3300) and was told it was as good as what we had with our Comdial. Its not, and not by a LOOONG LOOONG run. In fact I'll even say I can't believe they even put out a vm system this basic/glitchy.

4. Expanded CTI - it might be more cost-effective to use Asterisk to implement a CTI solution that interfaces with Mitel.

I could go on but those are the basics as far as I'm concerned...if SIP licenses weren't eleventy billion dollars a channel I'd buy a handful mount an Asterisk box right under the 3300, just for when or if I ever needed it :-)

I'll give you $500.00 for your 3300MXe with phones and password. Then you can take the $500.00 and upgrade the Asterisk to do 'ALMOST' everything the Mitel will do. DEAL?
