Our hotel has a SX-200. We want to add a fax machine to the business center so that customers can send faxes. The business center has a analog handset on an ONS line, and the handset works fine. We dial 9 to get out. When we try to send a fax we hear:
1-PBX dial tone
2-Fax machine dials 9
3-Fax machine pauses
4-Telco dial tone
5-Telco starts complaining that no digits were dialed
6-Dest fax number digits

5 and 6 are happen close to ea other, probably under a second.

The fax is a Brother MFC-7840W; I looked through the manual to see if I can shorten its pause, but didn't see anything.

Are there and SX-200 settings that can help? Like length the time it takes to respond to the 9?

The system has one free ONS port that is currently configured for DID, so if all else fails I'll put the fax pair on that port.

What version of the SX-200 is this? Old analog or newer digital?

Storing a pause 8
Press Redial/Pause to insert a 3.5-second
pause between numbers. You can press
Redial/Pause as many times as needed to
increase the length of the pause.
Storing one touch dial
numbers 8
Your machine has 4 One Touch keys where
you can store 8 fax or telephone numbers for
automatic dialing. To access numbers 5 to 8,
hold down Shift as you press the One Touch

Form 4, Option #47, increase it from 5 seconds to 10 seconds, and see if that fixes the problem.
BTW, in step #4, that is not the CO Dial Tone, It's the Mitel ARS 2nd (confirmation) dial tone.

Set up COS for fax to use direct to ARS
no need for dial 9 or pause.

F5F: I tried 10 secs, but it didn't change the timing -- 4 & 5 are still a second or less apart. I assume that the form change takes immeadiately, and I don't have to do some sort of a "commit" step.

ICOM: This is a great plan if all else fails, but there is also a handset in the business center so guests can call the front desk, their room, etc. I can use two lines, one for fax and one for the handset, but because the sytem is nearly full and only has 1 free ONS port I would do this as a last step.

Thank you everyone!

Check System Option 26 in form 4 to see if it is enabled. No Overlap Outpulsing causes the system to wait for the digits dialed before selecting a trunk and sending to the telco.

Have you tried:
Put the fax ext. in it's own COS, enable Direct to ARS (COS option 217)so you won't need the "9".
It may help.

SL: My opt 26 wass enabled. Are you suggesting I try to disable it?

MT: Because the business center has a handset as well as a fax, ideally we would keep the dial 9 behavior so that customers can call the front desk or their room. But if there are no settings that can address this fax-pause-too-long issue then I will resort to two lines, one Direct ARS for the fax and one not for the handset.
