I've got the usual arsenal of 66, 110, Krone, and Bix bits. I've been running into a punch block that while it may look like Bix, my bit really doesn't fit right and terminate at all. The card stuck nearby at each location references a "type 25." Haven't been able to come up with a proper bit through Graybar, or anywhere else. I've been left to hillbilly the install by shoving the wire into the block and trying to force it in with a small slotted screwdriver. This is not how I prefer to do my work. My partner thought sure it was Bix, but I swear it ain't.
So what is a type 25 bit...is it something still being made...am I totally out of my mind (don't answer the last question...)
TIA

Don't know. The only bit you didn't mention is the 630 that is used for 630 wall jacks. It doesn't cut, just pushes the wire into the clip.

All you sure it's not BIX? The patent on the Northern Telecom BIX format has run out. The last couple of years we are starting to see clones of their strips. The tolerances aren't the same and the NT BIX tool fits differently (and not for the better).
I have even seen some rack mount network patch panels using BIX (made in China) and if you don't punch them squarely, they snap (break) open.

3M had a series of blocks that were similar is shape to a 66M1 block but had a wierd punch down. Maybe that's it?

Thanks, could be about anything at this point.
I've tried my BIX, and it just doesn't get into the block all the way for termination. I've terminated BIX and Krone in the past, and once the bit is squarely placed, it fits and terminates. It ain't rocket science, just simple work for monkeys like us (well, me anyway, I seem to work for bananas).
I don't have the 630 bit, and I doubt it's a GTE setup. There are areas locally that were once GTE controlled, though only a few in this area. I've seen a few of their odd things.
Using the small blade screwdriver has allowed a passable termination for 1mb lines in the past. Monday I get to try again; gotta wait for a trunk card for the KSU to bring one more line in. Perhaps I'll look more closely at the laminated card hanging in MPOE for any clues and pass it along here....

One of these days I'll get a digital camera; my cell phone doesn't have a camera, so no pix right away.
The block looks like 110, and to be honest I thought it might have been BIX when I first saw it, but as I said the bit really didn't work. Ho hum, the call to go back there is Monday as the trunk card will have arrived, so I'll see what's up then.
