So here is my update they said ok to the upgrade but before I start I checked all of the numbers on the system and found a few problems

A. the nvram is release 1 (ntbb08ga-93)
b. there is a nam on the system and it is release 4 (nt5b74aabj)
c. mics (nt7b53fa-93)

There is a fast rad on the system altho I dont know if it will help an event 299 has happened and the paging is gone for all external speakers even though the system clicks when its accessed but thats not the problem. The problem is I dont think I can upgrade to 6.1 because of the nam and when I do change the nvram out any programming will be lost so my question is how do I back it up can I use the nru 10 or do I have to do something else please advise

You have two potential issues to overcome with the upgrade.

1) The release 1 NVRAM is a problem. If it were release 2, your MICS upgrade would be as simple as replacing the 4.0 pcmcia card with the 6.1 and restoring power.

Things being what they are, I would backup the 4.0 using NRU.
Power down, and install the new NVRAM with the original 4.0 software.
Restore your programming using NRU.
Test to be sure everything is as it should be.
Power down, and replace the 4.0 pcmcia card with your 6.1.
Restore power and test.

Technically, when you are removing or inserting pcmcia cards, you should have the three amphenol cables removed from the KSU (leaving them connected has been identified as a source of corruption). Just be sure to reconnect them before powering back up.

Your programming should survive the upgrade. However, your line numbering will change do to the added support for E-1s.

2)You will want to check the version of Norstar Voice Mail that is running, rather than just the part number on the NAM. NVM will have to be 4.1 (minimum) to be supported.

If a NVM upgrade is required, you will want to do that first (before upgrading the MICS software).

Oh yeah....It wouldn't hurt to make a note of your MICS System ID, as well as any keycodes (PRI Enabler) that may have been entered. There is a chance that the system ID will change. If that happens, keycodes that have been installed will not work against the new ID. At that point, a Nortel dealer with access to the keycode retrieval system will have to contact Nortel to restore the keycodes. If no keycodes have been entered, it isn't a big deal if the ID changes.

Good Luck once again!

You should be able to replace NVRAM and this will fix problem.

I had a backup of system that had this happen. Did system restart and loaded backup. That fixed problem.

But it was recommended that we upgraded NVRAM to 2.

Good Luck!!

If all else fails, use a BFH.

Absolutely, do this first. It is the cheapest part of the upgrade and may be all that is required. If you don't upgrade the MICS software, you won't have to upgrade the Voice Mail.

The SP:30NdG00 causes problems in a lot of systems (even after years of trouble-free operation). But, is not necessarily the source of your original problem (corruption in the release 1 NVRAM is more likely).

Yes the NAM is below the minimum of 4.1 so I wont be going to the 6.1 as they dont want to incur the costs but I am going to change the nvram and try this first maybe it will save them the money. I did get all of the numbers including the sys id 90876110 but I dont think I will need to do much there as they dont have any stored keys, its basic setup as squared and not to extensive on the programming but I would like to back it up and restore it to save time. Hey Thanks for all of your help You guys are the best let me know if I can help you out in any way I know samsung very well along with a few other systems and would be more than happy too once again thanks and I will keep you updated.
