You have two potential issues to overcome with the upgrade.
1) The release 1 NVRAM is a problem. If it were release 2, your MICS upgrade would be as simple as replacing the 4.0 pcmcia card with the 6.1 and restoring power.
Things being what they are, I would backup the 4.0 using NRU.
Power down, and install the new NVRAM with the original 4.0 software.
Restore your programming using NRU.
Test to be sure everything is as it should be.
Power down, and replace the 4.0 pcmcia card with your 6.1.
Restore power and test.
Technically, when you are removing or inserting pcmcia cards, you should have the three amphenol cables removed from the KSU (leaving them connected has been identified as a source of corruption). Just be sure to reconnect them before powering back up.
Your programming should survive the upgrade. However, your line numbering will change do to the added support for E-1s.
2)You will want to check the version of Norstar Voice Mail that is running, rather than just the part number on the NAM. NVM will have to be 4.1 (minimum) to be supported.
If a NVM upgrade is required, you will want to do that first (before upgrading the MICS software).
Oh yeah....It wouldn't hurt to make a note of your MICS System ID, as well as any keycodes (PRI Enabler) that may have been entered. There is a chance that the system ID will change. If that happens, keycodes that have been installed will not work against the new ID. At that point, a Nortel dealer with access to the keycode retrieval system will have to contact Nortel to restore the keycodes. If no keycodes have been entered, it isn't a big deal if the ID changes.
Good Luck once again!
