I just upgraded an old MICS 1.1 with an old NAM.
We put in a new S/W cartridge with 6.0 XC and a Call Pilot. Customer kept the old KSU and peripherals.
Everything went smooothly with one exception: if you hang up on the AA, the line stays engaged, times out, and transfers to the receptionist (221).
During the day, they answer live, so it's no problem, but they do have a couple of back door lines to the AA 24/7 for employees to get their voice mail with out bothering the receptionist.
The lines ARE set to be supervised and the cards are DS.
so.....what gives???

Are you sure that you are receiving the Disco from the carrier? One way to test is to call in and answer the call at the D-mark. Then have the far end hang up and see if your Butt set gives you dial tone or reorder tone with about 2 seconds. If not then it is probably not a Supervised line.

nope......not telco.
Got fast busy when I hung up the far side.
Could it be old line cards with new S/W, or the KSU version is too old for 6.0 S/W?
The customer didn't want to replace everything, just the S/W in order to upgrade the VM. So all we put in was the 6.0 S/W card and a new S/W sleeve (which, incidently came with a new 6.1 S/W package).
So any other ideas?

A fast busy does not indicate disconnect supervision is working from the telco. The telco line should drop voltage or reverse polarity.
If you call in from the outside (say your cell phone) and answer from a system phone, what happens when you hang up your cell? Does the line drop on the system, as in it clears on the phone? Or does the line indicator stay lit?

indicator stays lit.
If you hang up during the main greeting, the line will eventually transfer to 221.
Also I just found out that people consistantly get fast busy tone after messages in their mail boxes.

Another problem that showed up on this system is that they can't log in to their mailboxes from off site via the back line.
It's as if the system is screwing up the DTMF tones and it says "invalid mailbox/password combination".
I changed line cards to new ones (remember this was an OLD system-1.1) to go with the new S/W (6.0). and that problem has stopped, but now, the receptionist says that she get call after call with no one there - a noticable increase after the card swap.
Do we need to just tear it all out and put in all new equiptment.
In other words, is there an issue between a 1.1 generation system and 6.0 S/W?

[/QUOTE I have the same problem with my Norstar key system. I have a 6.1 card, and I have replaced everything except the 66-block and amphenol cables. The phone company has DMS500 switch, and they have COD programmed on their switch. When the calling party hangs up, but if the called party is still on the line, the line doesn't get disconnected. when the calling party calls, and let the phone ring, then line will disconnect if the calling party hangs up.

telco swears they have them on a "quick disconnect card" and it has been replaced in the past week.
They have a telco called Polaris that handles all of this huge business complex called the Warner Center in L.A. I susspect that at the Telco end, they are running out of a channel bank which then sends out analog CO's to the KSU. There is no T-1 equipment in the customer's site.
Simon: The calls are often answered by auto attendant. So if you hang up, it's as if the called party still has the line.
