I'm going to upgrade a customer's MICS 6.1MR to use a PRI. I've done quite a few T-1s but no PRI's on Norstars. Obvisously, I'll need DTI, Fiber Combo card, PRI-Key Code. Anything else?

Is most everything identical to doing a T1? Just make target lines? Give access to PRI-A? Anything else I need to know?

Thanks,
Larry

If it's a full PRI no problem. If it's partial there are a few programming sequences you would not expect.

I wasn't aware there was a PRI keycode.
Get the protocol you need from your telco provider to enter in the PRI parameters field (most likely SL1) and that should be the only settings you may need to change from default.

Larry,

One important note regarding outbound calls: You cannot use line pool access codes with PRI. You must setup routing.

Regarding the protocol, SL1 is used for networking with other switches (Nortel switches). And, I believe it is only available if you also purchase the MCDN networking option. For a connection to the PSTN, the type of C.O. switch you are connecting to will determine the ISDN protocol used, usually National (NI) or DMS.

Good Luck!

MCDN keycode is required for networking a BCM to an M1 or an Option switch or centralized Voicemail between BCMs, but I have installed 3 BCM 400s using PRI trunking and the SL1 protocol to the DMS 100 Nortel switch, and have yet to buy a keycode for it.

So now I'm curious.
If you don't mind, let me know if you actually have to buy a keycode for the MICS, or if you only have to install the DTI cartridge and set the parameters.
I've never installed a PRI on a MICS but it looks like I will be within a couple of months. Jim

The PRI parameters do not appear in Norstar software until the "PRI Enabler" keycode has been applied. You absolutely MUST have that keycode.

You wouldn't want to find that out on the night of your cut! [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]

Ahh, thanks BCMGuy, I'll let my sales engineer know.
Is this for the MICS and CICS only?

The reason I'm confused is I just programmed another 400 about three weeks ago and entered keycodes for MCDN (or SL-1), VoIP trunks and mailboxes but don't recall a PRI keycode. I set the dipswitches, placed the DTI, enabled it, changed one field in the T1 parameters, and it flew.
Dazed and confused in TN...
