i have a location with 3 buildings the furthest being close to a 1000 ft away. i have an asm used for fax machines and a single line set. the problem is the asm works fine if i clip on and test ringing .the #asigned to the port rings fine. when i extend it to the next building over feeder , when i call the # the phone does not ring, the asm picks up the line&hangs up. is there a distance for sending ring voltage on an asm? the phone can call out but it cant recieve calls!it is the same way at the closer building which is about 450 ft.

The distance is not the problem. it sounds like you have trouble on the cable pairs. Have you looked at them with an Ohm meter? It sounds like it's trip ringing.

I agree with these guys, distance shouldn't be the problem. There's some shorting going on here. When you clipped your buttset on, did you have the feeders still hooked up? When you call out at the remote end of the feeders, any unusual noise on the line?

If it is ringing voltage being killed Viking makes a unit that increases the RENs by 10 times.
Don't know if that will cure it, but thought I would mention it as a possible solution if you can't find anything else.
