I have a busy office whose three receptionists are being overwhelmed by calls. System is an MICS with PRI. I've given each receptionist three lines appearances each for the main (incoming) line.
If I select "when busy:busy signal" and make the prime set the same as the user set (e.g. 221=221, 222=222, 223=223) will the inbound callers hear a busy signal only after all nine appearances are used up? If not, how do I insure a busy signal after 9 (simultaneous) incoming calls?
Office manager wants no more than nine calls incoming at a time and prefers to have a busy signal if there are too many calls in order to take some pressure off the receptionists.

Sorry there is no way to do what ask on the phone system. Number of incoming calls is based on number of active channels on the PRI.

If you have a PRI, you can request that your local service provider arrange the channels so that only a certain number of calls can get through for a particular number called. This can even be customized so that the main number will ride exclusively on nine channels, resulting in the tenth caller receiving a busy signal. This would have no effect on the other numbers, for example DID numbers.
We do this all the time, or should I say, most local service providers do this for us. Even though our systems have the ability to limit the total number of inbound paths, we still get the carrier to do it if they will.

If the system can't busy lines, then why do we have the "If busy:To Prime/Busy" selection under line programming?

You must be using DID and target lines PRI for this to work. How are you routing calls to your receptionists?

I'm using DID's and PRI.
The main office # is programmed to appear/ring on the receptionists phones as Line 167. Three receptionists, three T7316's, three line appearances each set. This line does not appear or ring anywhere else.

I'll experiment with the Prime settings, however there's no guarantee that I'll be able to witness the results of my experiment as the phones aren't always busy when I'm at that location.
I agree, it seems crazy that a business actually wants their phone to ring busy, but that's what this doctor wants...

Danny you should be using intercom not A&R. Try giving each give each reception 3 intercoms and put the DN's and your 167 in a hunt group.
