anyone know what the box that connects from wall to phone and plugs in to serieal port on PC is?

This particular user is among 3 phones with the same device. They are the only phones in the switch.

her phone, however, keeps cutting out and re-initializing. At their request I repulled the station cable, and replaced both line cords. After realizing that the phone was still resetting, I removed that box, and plugged the phone into the wall. They reinstall the box and call me saying phone is not working again. I went over there yesterday, and removed the box again. Trying to see if that is the problem. I think it is. putting a different phone in that office hasn't seemed to help.

Thanks in adv for any info.

Need more info on little box, some devices will allow modem hook up on ext. port. it uses b channel. If 3 sets are same swap box to another ext and see if it works there.--------John

I could not even find a part number on the boxes. It is obviously used for some sort of integration with the PC, maybe pc dialer, or even vm to e-mail application, but seems kind of old for that.
customer doesn't even know what it is for.

You got me intrigued, I wonder what it is.

It must be kind of old if it's using a serial port.

If the customer doesn't know what it is, why are they plugging it back in after you took it out?

LOL twisted pair! That's what I was thinking, if they don't know what it is, and aren't using it...remove it! If it causes problems why use it? Remember if its a digital set, and that connects between the wall and phone, it could be messing up the Norstar digital signals, causing the phones to not work.

If you need that, and it has to be analog, I do believe you can hook up an ATA to a SEPERATE extension, link those extensions to ring together, and use it that way.

Sounds like a TAPI interface box for CTI applications.

SMDR... Doesn't one unit work for the entire system? Maybe i'm just mistaken, but I thought it plugged in like a rad and can print a dot-matrix line by line for each call on the system

I would guess I might have the answer for you or at least a replacement for it.

Go to https://www.konexx.com/dwi_dual.htm and see if the unit looks like a DWI.

I used these on my Norstar system at home and still have it somewhere. I could get calls out on an analog device while using an M7410 cordless phone.

If I remember right, I could dial out on the analog port but it did not have an extension number to dial into the analog device.

I believe they are trying to dial out on their PC using installed software to make calls while having their digital Norstar available for incoming calls.
