Hello, I hope you can help.
I have 2 bcms in different geographical areas. I have successfully networked them over a VPN so that site to site extension dialing works.
What I want to do now is program an access code or possibly a button that would grab a line out (dial tone) on the remote BCM. That way people visiting plant A could call local to plant B at no cost (the call would effectively be coming from plant B )
Both are BCM 400s running release 3.7
Effectively, I'd like to be able to hit "8" at plant b, which would route over to the BCM at plant A and pass it the "9" access code to grab an outside line.
I know how to program a destination code and a route, it's just the grabbing of the line at the remote side I can't figure out.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Damed, Welcome to the board! The BCMs can certainly be configured in the manner that you describe. But, I wouldn't call it a standard "user guide" type of configuration, which is the intention of the help provided in this forum. Due to the security risks involved with this solution, my suggestion would be that you have an authorized dealer help you set it up. It might save your company a "LOT" of money down the road. ![[Linked Image from img125.echo.cx]](https://img125.echo.cx/img125/8038/01welcome7jb.gif)

Thanks for the welcome.
As for security, both BCMs are only able to make local calls out. Long distance requires codes implemented at the telco level, so that's not much of a concern here.
Any idea where I can get some help with this? I realize a vendor is ideal, but I don't have that kind of time (I am at the remote site only for a few more days)
Thanks again

Your vendor would likely be able to access the system remotely to make the appropriate changes. That being the case, you may not have to wait at all, could be just a phone call away. That is still probably your best route.
The features that allow this to happen successfully are disabled by default to prevent toll fraud, and other malicious activity. You say that's not a concern in your situation. But, it would be a concern in almost every other situation. Also, as far as we know, you may be a hacker that is trying to configure this on a system not belonging to you.
If anyone posts information that could compromise any system, I will delete it myself (if another Mod doesn't get to it first).
Thanks for understanding. Please contact a vendor.

I totally understand. THanks.
Another question that hopefully you can help me with:
I have 3 BCMs networked for VoIP over a VPN. 2 are in Canada, 1 is in Asia.
I can call Asia to either of the BCMs in Canada, no trouble, great quality, everything is perfect.
When either one of the Canadian BCMs tries to call Asia, the extension in Asia rings, and shows the proper location and extension display of the person calling, but as soon as you pick it up.. it's dead. Other times when you try to call Asia from Canada, you just get a fast busy.
Normally I would be looking for a network issue here, except for the fact that calls from Asia to Canada are crystal clear and perfect. If the network was the issue, you'd think the problem would occur both ways.

Part of it could be the firewall at the Asia site, allowing a voice session to be initiated from the inside, but not the outside.
As for the BCMs:
Compare gateway settings at each end.
Check QoS Monitor/Tx Threshold/Fallback to circuit-switched settings at each end.
Watch a BCM Monitor session at each site while making a test call. That can often times give you a good indication as to where the call is failing.
Good Luck!

Thanks.
Gateway is set correctly at both ends ( it points to the router at each respective location)
QoS montior is off, Tx Threshold is 0, Fallback to circuit is disabled at both sides.
Any other ideas?

Ok, watching BCM monitor, I see the call initiate on both BCMs (have BCM monitor running on both)
Under RTP Sessions, I see the call, at 46.9kbps.
Under "Line Monitor" I see the VOIP line on the call.
But it's dead. I can't hear anything said from either side. The connection is there, but no voice gets through.
Any Ideas at all?

I have also checked the firewall at the Asia site (that is where I am currently)
The VPN tunnel is set to allow all traffic over it, so I can't see that being the issue here.

Regarding the gateway, I was actually refering to the voice gateway configuration at each end, rather than the default gateway for the LAN segment. That is still worth checking. Everything else sounds OK.
It bothers me that you only experience this when the call originates in Canada, and it works when the other end originates the call. You've checked the firewall that terminates the VPN tunnel. Is there any other security device on the LAN that may be blocking ports?
I think it always sounds a bit like a cop-out when I say this, but, are the patches current on the BCMs? (cop-out or not, a LOT of problems get fixed by patching)
