When I try to transfer a call to voice mail using the transfer to voice mail button then press the single point button it transfers the call to that persons extension. If I press the voice mail transfer button then key pad in the persons three digit extension, the system transfers to voice mail the way it is expected to. Can anyone help?

Transfer to VoiceMail (feature 986) is a voicemail feature. It does not work with the internal autodial buttons. You must key in the mailbox number.

I guess the best explaination of this would be: An internal autodial button dials a telephone extension. The Trans to VMail key is looking for a Mailbox number. The two don't necessarily have to match.

Oh, and...

You would think that by the time the BCM has come this far, you wouldn't have to do that any longer.

i see it has 2 different entities because you can have a phone system without voice mail thats why the intercoms work on the phones and the voice mail as a add on to your system thats how i explain this problem to my clients.
i explain to my clients that they have a phone with a voicemail box just like getting a telco line with or without call answer.
just my 2 cents worth

I agree with Bunnie, by now Nortel should have engineered the system to use the internal dial button to transfer to either the phone or voice mail, other manufactures have.

I have mixed feelings on this one. For a user that equates an extension with a voice mailbox assigned to the extension, yes, it seems confusing that you can't use an internal autodial key. But, what about a user that has a mailbox and no phone of their own? You wouldn't be able to add a key for such a user. Getting a receptionist to use the buttons for SOME users, and dial mailbox numbers for others could be a bigger problem.

I get no push back at all from new customers regarding this issue, once they realize they are dialing an extension in one case, and a mailbox number in the other.

That being said, if we could use the buttons, that would come across as awesome integration. I just can't decide what you would do with mailboxes that aren't associated with phones.

This is just software, 0s and 1s. You can create a button that is a Feature this and another button that is a Feature that.

They are linking cities and plugging in phones to a broadband modem of any kind. All sorts of things we had no names for twenty years ago are happening.

This is not an impossible task or even one of tremendous difficulty, quite simply no financial resources have been dedicated to updating it but it would certainly seem reasonable to do so.
