i have an upcoming upgrade for a customer and have made alot of phone calls and spent alot of time researching this procedure. even checked the archives on various boards etc.
the variety and the different answers i keep getting scare me a bit. i really don't want to have to reprogram the entire system.
practical scope of work: install xc 7.0 software thru upgrade process. add combo #2, t-1 card #2 and t-1 card #3 in trunk mod. also 2 station mods and 2 asm's.
(i know the aaa part number issue about t-1 card #1)
here are the specs: current software: rel 1 mics dr 6.1 fc, memory cartridge: ntbb08ga-93 02 also nnth8456dwuu0009 2003/09/07
i have a 6.1 upgrade tool
the research thus far runs the full range from use 7.0 tool, no tool, get ready to lose existing enabler, cartridge memory must be rel 02 which i called in and they couldn't confirm if it was or not. power down and unplug amphenols, then swap software and plug them back in and reboot. leave the voice mail off the entire time (4.1 nam) i have heard and seen numerous methodologies.
could one of my fellow members who has "been there, done that" help me out with what the usual sequence of events are.
i know this is historically shaky territory and the people who issed the upgrade docs are partly to blame (and admit it)
thanks for your help

You DO NOT need the upgrade tool to go from 6.1 to 7.0. Your memory cartridge is already a rel 2.
Be sure and do your software upgrade BEFORE adding any hardware.
There is always a possiblity of losing your database during any upgrade. Be sure you have your PRI keycode handy.

What Marv said! :thumb:
I would just add that, you want to KNOW what you have (database wise) BEFORE the upgrade, rather than just winging it and hoping for the best.
I wouldn't say it's shaky, so long as you follow that advise. Performing the procedure exactly the same from one system to another often yields different results. I have had them go flawlessly. I have had minor issues like user auto dials not working, and T-1 parameters change. And, yes, I have had system IDs change, requiring keycodes to be regenerated. None of this is a big deal, unless you're not prepared!
Good Luck!

The above comments were based on following upgrade procedures of like software types, such as 6.1 XC to 7.0 XC, or 6.1 (standard) to 7.0 (standard). I have since noticed that there is no mention of "XC" in conjunction with "6.1" within tickets original post. IF your current software is 6.1 (standard, non-XC) you CANNOT upgrade to 7.0 XC (or any other XC version). The entire database will need to be entered from scratch when the new XC cartridge is installed. I have already sent this info to tickets via PM. I am updating this thread so that future readers don't get an unpleasant surprise.

Good catch Marty, I missed the non XC 6.1.
At the same, I've changed 6.1 to 6.1XC without so much as a wimper from the system.
He chould upgrade to 6.1XC first and 7.0XC.

Just to add, when going from 6.1 to 7.0 if the system does not come up right away (with in 5 minutes) don't panic. I have had them take up to 20 minutes to come up. The reason I say this is because if it loads far enough with the 7.0 and you don't think it is comming up. Then you put the 6.0 back in and load it you will probably lose all programming plus your system ID will change.
