Hi, my name is Greg.
Recently we installed a BCM50 which I am responsible for. Great system but we are having some growing pains.
I want to enable remote IP telephones to work on the system. I am not having much luck as the whole IP telephony thing is new to me.
Really like what the BCM could do (as opposed to Can Do, as I have yet to see it 'can do,' a few things we need done.)
First I must say that I am not a firewall guru but I get by. For this initial testing phase, the firewall is off and the phone switch is set as SUA so there should be no ports being blocked in either direction. This was the only quick way I found to get into the system remotely.
There has to be a better way.
The phone connects to the BCM but there is no audio. I have bypassed all firewall equipment in question with same result. No audio.
The IP phones where tested on the LAN and worked fine. Connecting from the WAN is another story.
How should this be configured on the router and BCM?
Is it absolutly necessary to establish a VPN fron remote site to central? I have a BSR on order but this is less than ideal configuration for me.
Any and all help/advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
A compulsives work is never done!

What do you have at the remote end?
Maybe for fun, Try connecting directly to the internet (after the cable modem) and see if that solves it.
There are specific ports that need to be opened, when/if I find them, I'll post them for you.
