Hello all, I hope this can be answered as I have tried searching but apperently don't know what to ask for.
Here is what I need (and been told by several people that Norstar systems will do this.)
When a user leaves his/her desk they want to have a programmed button to 'forward,' their calls to an outside line (cell phone perhaps.) However, we need to link (F71) this outbound call and then disconnect. Can anybody tell me how this is done?
I was under the impression (was told) if we simply 'forward,' to an outside line that both the incomming call and outgoing call would tie up trunk lines. Yes, No?

The best way that I've found with POTS is to have them setup as Centrex lines. That way with Link, you can set it up & forward the call. (Assuming you don't take the voicemail route.)
I haven't done this for a while, but I think you do it as follows: a) Feature * 3 b) Press the button location c) Feature 71 (& maybe a pause or two F78) d) dial in the # e) OK
This will work with any SLT as well with speed dial buttons, but the setup would be different.

Thanks guys.
I was purposefully a bit vague as there are three different systems that I deal with. A MICS, a CICS and a BCM. So hoping for a generic answer, not system specific.
Yes, we have centrex and I researched this and kept getting the same answer; yes. But nobody could tell me how to program a button for this.
This was the specific question posed to everyone in the sales cycle and other resources. I just wasn't sure about stringing commands on a button.
There are so many great 'features' of these systems and most users know three.
Part of the problem is poor documentation about some obscure features. One may be the best feature ever but nobody knows to use it.
I made a customers day by showing them Feature 71!
If there was no "Transfer to VM" button nobody I know would ever use this. Great feature.
Forgive my ignorance; I am new to your acronyms. What is SLT?
Great board by the way. Best place I have found for Nortel information in years. Trust me, I've looked.

Sorry Dave I think you mean F*1, F*3 will only let you put in a feature code. You can't add a dialing string to that.
You can use F*1 to store a speed dial that can include link and pause codes.

Doesn't gkissell want these transfers to take place while the extension is unattended? If I read the question and responses right, the feature button would only work if someone was there to press the feature button (link + external number) after answering the call at the set. If I'm way off, please forgive, as I have not even had my first cup yet.

The only other way that I know of would always tie up a particular line & tie up a 2nd one as well....if available. If many people in the office do this, the ones that are left sit twiddling their thumbs as the lines for never be available in or out.
Sounds to me that the best solution would be to either have the receptionist forward the call as described above or the person involved could forward to someone else to do it.

That pretty much sums it up. It does not appear possible to string multiple commands on a button.
The whole idea is not to depend on a person to transfer the calls.
I just want a macro assigned to a button. It doesn't seem too much to ask. My six dollar remote control can do it, why not my thousand-dollar telephone? :bang:
