I assuming that he wants to take certain channels off DirectTV and distribute them over the existing premises MATV system. Basically you need to have a separate DirectTV receiver for each channel, take the audio and video from each and put each on an unused channel with a modulator for each channel. How you do this and how it's going to work depends on what is there now.

I would suggest that if you have no experience with large MATV or CATV distribution you stay away from this. This used to be my business for many years and I can tell you this isn't going to happen if you haven't done this before and don't have the test equipment to set everything up.

Sub it out if you have to.

I echo what Hal said. Make sure that your customer knows that she/he will have to pay per channel per unit (room) per month in addition to buying a receiver for each channel. Not a cheap proposition.

When I stayed in Vegas last year, they were using RCA tv's with the built-in DirecTV receivers in the Hotel I stayed at.

I would think DirecTV has a commercial hotel/motel package for this.

I have installed 4x16 and 5x16 satellite switches so I bet they have even larger ones.

DirecTV does, in fact, market both the Hotel/Motel industry and a TV with a built in receiver. They actually aren't that expensive; like $500 and they're flat screens. You still have to pay per channel per unit though but that may be a whole lot easier to install. Depending on the number of units, you'd need to be smart with your multi-switches.

You do realize that Spaun equipment is for the distribution of the Direct TV signal. Each TV will need a Direct TV receiver or one of those integrated TVs that Kyawa is talking about. It's not what you were talking about originally.

...or is that what you mean by "how do I sell them the equipment"?
