I have an upgrade to perform on an MICS that is running MICS XC 1.0 software to 7.1 and then install a CP100. Customer had a Startalk Flash several years ago but elected to not replace it after it died. Company providing equip.and hired me to perform the upgrade did not ship any upgrade tool. Since there are only 10 sets I am prone to insert the new software and reprogram system. It seems to me that this is exactly what I did to an 2.0 MICS several years ago, however, I did not have this forum to use as a sounding board. I do believe that the new software will evoke a Coldstart, then it will become just another installation that has all of the cabling and sets connected. I am posting this in hopes that some of my fellow techs will weigh in and confirm what I believe. Also, I noticed that the fiber trunk mod is plugged into the bottom fiber port of a 6 port expansion card. This leads me to not trust any software that may have been input by origional installer. Thanks in advance for your input. Tazmanian

If you are going to just swap software its not going to work. You have to performe Start up and as soon as system will go to "Applying tamplate" shot down power and only after that install new software and do Start up again.

FYI, This method worked as I thought it would.Removed old 1.0 XC cartridge, installed new 7.1 software card into NVRAM cartridge, powered up system and it did a cold start. Starting DN was 100, now trying to figure why the CP 100 will not allow me to add mailboxes 110-119.Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!

Look at special prefix and name prefix settings in the CP.

You have a dial conflict. It's either special prefix or name prefix...I can't remember. It can be changed but I always tried to get the customers to go with 2XX or 2XXX ext numbers.

As this started as an upgrade and CP install I have not asked customer to chg his numbering plan. Not a big deal but the Boss's number is 111. I will figure it out and or CP provider will have an answer. If it becomes a major deal,I will chg. the numbers on Exts# 110,111. Thanks for the input!
