I received a call from one of our remote locations that they have forgotten the password to the auto attendant mailbox. Can this password be reset by the user? They have the abilitity to reset other extension passwords. The system is a Nortel Norstar MICS. Is there a default extension for the auto-attendant. I know other systems do.
Thank You,
Troy

If you are talking about the General Delivery mailbox, the password can be reset like any other mailbox. It is mailbox 10 or 100 or 1000 depending how many digits are in intercom dial plan.

It is 1000. We get a message "mailbox is locked", contact administrator when trying to access it.

Are you sure that you are trying to access the Gen Delivery Mail Box? You may be resetting the GD MB but then trying to access another MB that is still locked out. Verify the proper MB with the Ext you are using.

I think the question in order would be....what exactly are you trying to do? Perhaps he doesn't need to access General Delivery, but administration.
I know a little about a lot, and a lot about little.

I am sure it is the general delivery mailbox this person is trying to access. She forgot the password and needs to reset it. The extension is 1000. She was able to reset the pw to x. But now when she tries to access 1000 she gets a msg stating that the mailbox is locked and to contact your admin.

Sometimes you have to start with the basics. Do "Feature *0 intercom" Make sure the ext of the phone IS what you think it is. Then go into VM admin and do CHANGE on mb#1000. Then check the ext that it shows it is associated with. If your checks verify everything is good And you did a password reset, then try a VM reboot.
So many times we assume the ext number, the vm box and the associated ext to that mailbox. Sometimes the assumptions are wrong. If they are correct, then you have to dig deeper.
