I hope you guys can help out here. A friend of mine has a Nortel key system installed in their office. They called the phone co. to get caller ID on the lines, but found out that the system needed to have a nt8b88fa Caller ID Module installed. They did not get any info as to how this is installed. Can anyone here help us with this? Thanks in advance for your help. Cheers :toast:

Contact a local Nortel Dealer/Installer. He'll have to install this as you cannot, nor program it accordingly. If needed, click on the Installers link above for an installer near you.

Welcome to the boards, Plastico You may want to give us info on the system, just to verify that it does need that unit or not. But if it does, it is tricky to set it up and you should call a Norstar technician to do it.

I used to work for Lucent Tech for 10+ years and now run a phone co, so I think I would be able to muddle my way though this. I just need a few pointers. For them to has someone come to the office they would be paying 3+ hrs for drive time. I can't see that a key system should be that hard, I have run & programmed class 5 switches for some time. I understand that this is not like a DMS 100/200 or a Lucent 5E but like I said before I should be able to work through it. Again thanks. Layoff I will try contacting them to get all the info about this system.

Hey Plastico, Guys wants to help you by asking additional info on the system. Maybe you have one which is not capable of a CID? Don't be offended. Its grate if you can do it your self. I, personally, respect that very much. So I am not going deep of asking you what kind of Norstar you have. I'll tell you that you need a CI cartridge in order to have a CID. If this info is sufficient - good luck.

If your system is capable of CID then you are right, it is very simple. All you need is the hardware and the knowledge that it takes to program the system. With that being said, you should be on your way to begin muddling thru it.
If this is your first time on a Norstar key system I suggest you have a backup technician on standby for support.

BTW, you said the customer didn't get any information on how the CID is installed. Where were they expecting to get that type of information from?

I'm assuming from the original post that it was the local Telco that installed it and going from their file info, they would have known that it would be a 6x16, & I hope a DR5. No CI line cartridge needed (can't be installed on that KSU), just the CII Caller ID adapter and DR5 S/W if it's not already installed, plus the needed programming.

NT8B88FA is C6 module for the compact 616 only running DR5 or 5.1 software. Your orginal post does not say what system is installed. Installation is simple. The amphenol is for the CI lines the screw terminals connect to a vacant station port.
