hello guys, my customer has a mics ksu and wants music on hold. i connnected the yelloworange pair on the opt amph to a miniplug, connected a radio and progarmed moh. it didnt work but when i moved the jack back a little bit i got music but very very low volume with the radio all the way up. radio is 15 watts. i took another radio from a ksu that isnt used but i had put in and it had worked fine on their dhs. using that radio and that mini plug and cable got the same results. i put my toner on the 66 block and tried background music, very very low. could this be anything other than a bad ksu. thanks dave

What do you get when you clip your test set leads on the music straight from the radio? If it's good out of the radio then it could be the connection on the 66 block. I always beanie a short piece of cross connect to the MOH cable. It makes the 66 block connection more secure. You can try reversing the polarity.

Make sure you are on the 8 Station amphenol. Secondly, take a look on the wire colors. Sometimes you can put the 2 wrong colors like Blue/ Green, because your problem like two different wires makes a pair. I would put a toner on and see if its bleeding over all pairs.

Usually I turn the music on and hook up a Toner to the pair.

Not all miniplugs are alike. A miniplug (1/8 inch plug) from a headset cord for a radio will not have enough copper to do the job.

If you put your toner clips directly on the pair, you should hear the doodle doodle very clearly on BGM at a phone or on MOH if you call in.

I get the solder-yourself miniplugs from Radio Shack and use 24 gauge wire to connect the music source. Many times I have tried to use those pre-made cords and they suck.

i did put my toner on the 66 block and got the same results. i thinks its the ksu but i also think i need to start using the radio shack mini plugs. i have been using the premade ones that work on a headset and they do give me problems sometimes. thanks for all the input. merry christmas, dave

Before you throw away the ksu, pull the moh pair off the block, strip a short piece of exposed copper and put your toner on it. You could have a weak punchdown.

You can always put it back on with a needle nose.
