I was asked for a proposal to replace a BCM50 that was damaged by lightning. The customer isn't fond of the Nortel, and wants to look at other brands. He has a Polycom conference phone that has a Nortel label on it as well. It plugs into an adapter - ata? Is this actually a single line telephone that could be used on an analogue slt port on another brand of system? Can it be a stand alone conference phone on a POTS line?

It is a single line phone when used with ata.

You can use it on any system with Analog port on it. It also can be plug in into CO directly.

Nortel/Polycom make a digital version of this phone. They refer to it as the Norstar Audio Conferencing Unit. If it looks like this, with the Nortel logo, it is a digital set and will NOT work on any system with an analog adapter. The KSU sees this unit as a M7100 and has all the features of a digital terminal. Polycom makes these phones for other manufacturers as well, so to be sure, connect a digital set to the jack and see if it comes up.
