I'm an IT engineer who's company also does telcom.
a customer bought a bcm50, ver1.00.2.04j from the local phone company. I'd like to upgrade the firmware to r3 but the phone company wants too much money to do it (plus will only do it during business hours) and there are no other local vendors who handle nortel.
am wondering how can I get r3 to do it myself? I was told r3 will give us compatibility with other, less expensive nortel phone models.
found on the nortel site an open source r2 (bcm50r2_open_Source.zip) but I don't think this is a release I want.
paying for a r3 download isn't a problem.

I would suggest contacting an authorised Nortel dealer in your area.

Hey Rich - Welcome to the boards.  I do not believe that using V3 over V1 will give you any more compatibility with any less expensive phones. I think what will work on V3 will also work on V1. But that being said, you really should go to V3. Look at the top of this page for all the BLUE squares. Click on the one for INSTALLERS. See if someone there can help you out.
