Hello All,

I just got word from the company I work for that we are getting a used Option 11C from our sister company.

I have no experience with these systems. I am the IT and phone "go-to" person. I gave been managing the MICS we have had for awhile.

I know I will need to learn programing on the Option 11C. I know its a whole programing language that I have never seen. I am open to learning the programing though. I pick things up very quickly.

Here is my question.

We have 6 incoming lines, and 25 users.

The system we have comes with the meridian mail card in it.

This is how we need the setup to work.

Call comes in during day mode. Call goes to the M2250 console for 4 rings, then if no one answers, go to day auto-attendant.

At night, calls go directly to night AA.

I am thinking that the setup will be pretty simple. But I am not an expert on these systems.

I know that this system is total overkill for us, but when it comes to the administration at this company, you can't fuss with them. This is what they want and I have to do it.

What cards do we need to have for the amount of incoming lines and stations. We are using M2250 for the attendant and M2616 for everyone else.

What's your take on this whole thing?

Thanks and have a good day.

-Mac

Option 11C is a tough system to learn. Your best bet is to bring in a pro.

So should I bring in a pro to teach me the language? Is this what you are saying? I have to learn the ins and outs of this system.

What are good dummy terminals to use for programing?

What are good methods of dialing in?

Thanks,
Mac

If your company insists that YOU work on it, have them SEND you for Nortel training. It will otherwise cost them to pay someone to do this as you don't have the proper training.

Maybe if I tell them how much this system is worth, they will let me upgrade us to a BCM.

Is the BCM like the ICS's?

I know it is IP capable but we really don't need that.

What is the value of 25x M2616 Black and 1x M2250 White.

i don't even know what the cards in the system are at this point.

The 2616's are worth less than $25 each (unless they're fully refurbished & cleaned) and the console might be worth a couple hundred bucks (do you really need a console with only 25 users?).

The option 11 interfaces via serial port - null modem cable or dial-up modem. You can use any terminal emulation software such as Procomm to enter the command line.

A BCM would be a better option as you could keep your current phones and program the BCM with the same interface you've been using to program the MICS.

I just started to take a Nortel class online through "Global Knowledge". I am going to have a pro come out and show me how to do all this stuff to when they install. So far it seems a lot like programing a CS 1000.

Does anyone know were I can obtain the manual with all the LD's and to administrate a Meridian Mail.

Do these systems even have caller ID??

Thanks,
Mac

The base 11C can have up to 23+ manuals for features and programming. The Merdian Mail has an additional 12+ manuals. It ain't for the faint hearted. Caller ID is available on digitally delivered PRI trunking.

So is caller ID not on CO lines? Just PRI's?

I am dreading looking at the manuals.

I would love to sell this off and buy a BCM but no one wants this stuff.

I have convinced them to upgrade to the BCM. I am very familiar in that line.
