im helping a tech out in my area on an mics that he wants to upgrade from 4.1xc to 5.0xc. does he need to use and upgrade tool to retain programming?

scratch that its a 4.0xc to a 5.0xc. he wants to add a call pilot.

I believe he needs to be at least 4.1 XC to be compatible with CP

yes he does thats why hes upgrading to the 5.0. i just dont know if he needs upgrade tool to retain programming.

No upgrade tool required. Although personally, I would stay away from 5.0 it has flaws. 6.1MR is the least I would go (upgade tool required to keep programming intact).

Keep in mind CP 3.x requires MICS/CICS 7.x.

Like everything in life there are no gaurantees, but if done properly the Sysid and PRI enabler code will remain intact.
